According to legend, the city was founded not by the Romans, but by the ancient Egyptians as a tribute to a bull-like god (by the way, the word "Turin" translates to "bull" in Latin, and a bull is depicted on the city's coat of arms and flag).
At different times, Turin was home to Nostradamus and Count Cagliostro, Paracelsus and Nietzsche - it seemed to attract mystical personalities. That's why we suggest dedicating a tourist route through Turin to its most mysterious and enigmatic places.
We'll start the walking route through Turin at Piazza Statuto - this square is known as the "black heart" of Turin. It is located exactly on the 45th parallel. During the Roman Empire, this place was considered almost cursed - executions took place here, and the vast necropolis Vallis Occisorum, or "valley of the slain," originated from here (it is from this necropolis that the modern name of the district - Valdocco - derives).
We continue the walking route through Turin at La Fontana del Frejus, a fountain erected in honor of those who died during the construction of the Frejus tunnel (which connected Italy and France through the Alps). It is believed that the gates of Hell are located under this monument! And Lucifer himself guards them. Take a closer look at the upper figure on the monument - officially, it is considered to be a winged Genius or Angel, but the presence of a 5-pointed star on its head spoils it all (in the Sacred Scriptures, Lucifer was compared to the morning star).
