The main types of public transport in Vilnius are buses and trolleybuses. Please note: if a bus number includes the letter “G,” it means it is an express bus and does not stop at every stop (more information can be found on the official website).
Payment for transport is made using single-use tickets, electronic tickets (sold at ticket offices and Lietuvos spauda kiosks), or the “Vilnius City Card” — Vilniečio kortelė (available at tourist information centers).
Fares
The price of public transport in Vilnius depends on where the ticket is purchased (it’s more expensive from the driver than at kiosks) and its validity period: 30 minutes — 1 EUR, 60 minutes — 1.25 EUR, 24 hours — 7.5 EUR, 72 hours — 13.50 EUR.
Travel tips
Our advice for tourists: it’s best to pay for transport using the Vilniečio kortelė (the card itself costs 1.50 EUR). You can load short-term tickets onto it.
Fines for traveling without a ticket range from 17 EUR (if you admit your fault immediately) to 30 EUR (if you argue). Children under 7 years old travel free, and school students receive discounts.
