Lithuania does not differ much in terms of crime rate from other Eurozone countries. Vilnius is a quiet city where it is safe to be in any neighborhood.
Nevertheless, the Vilnius police urge you to be vigilant in the city center, for example, in the vicinity of Gedimin Avenue, Pilimo Street or Vilniaus Street (here people often try to snatch your purse from your hands).
In the evening, it is not advisable to walk alone in the area of the railway station (beyond it begins the not quite prosperous Naujininkai district, where there are many unemployed and marginalized people), as well as in the Zhirmunai neighborhood.
And a couple more tips to avoid unpleasant situations:
- In Lithuania, women's toilets are marked with the letter "M", men's - with "V";
- alcoholic beverages may be drunk only in designated places.
