Guide to Tioman

Trip to Tioman

Tioman is the largest island in its volcanic archipelago. It is small, only 20 kilometers long, but attracts amazing nature and beaches. Tioman was first mentioned in the records of Arabian merchants dating back to the 10th century. At different times, traders from India, China and Persia came here. During its rich history it has been inhabited or abandoned.

You can get around Tioman in a few hours, but you won't find nature like this again. The forests here are very protective and not harvested, so the green groves here are as untouched as possible. No wonder the island has been used as a movie set.

In the middle of the island there is a small mountain range with the highest point at 1038 meters. There are no large mammals in the forests, but plenty of birds of paradise and flowers. Reptiles are occasionally seen, so it's a safe place for those who fear too much wildlife.

Tioman is famous for its mild climate and stable weather throughout the year. The average temperature is around +30 degrees Celsius. The only problem is precipitation, and the season of rain and strong winds lasts from November to March. The best period for beach vacations on Tioman is from April to July, but the entire dry season is considered touristy.

Tours to Tioman

The main purpose of most tourist trips to Tioman is beach vacation. The most popular beaches here are Salang and Air Batang, which are also good for snorkeling. There are also excellent beaches in the villages of Tekek and Gentings. We recommend to pay attention to the eastern beach of Juara and small surrounding islands like Tulai, Mukita and Teluk Nipah. To the northwest of Tioman lurks the wild Manki Beach. Paia to the west is a comparatively shady place thanks to the large number of tall palm trees.

Diving enthusiasts will not be bored - there are more than 20 different dive sites on Tioman, and if you are lucky, you can meet sharks and turtles. The diving season lasts from March to October. There are daily boat trips from the island to all possible destinations. The most popular ones are Chebeh Island with unique underwater reliefs, Tiger Rock with a stunning coral reef and the Garden of Gorgonians near Tulai Island.

We recommend paying attention to Malay cuisine. You should definitely try nasi lemak - rice in coconut milk with peanuts and other additives. Local ice cream is called ais kachan - ice chips with corn, nuts, condensed milk and syrup. Very tasty local tandoori chicken in a special sauce with roti chanai flatbread. And finally - fried rice noodles koi tiao with seafood, egg and sprouts.
