Paradise Corsica is the antipode of the Mediterranean resorts of the French Riviera. There are no noisy parties and festivals, no crowds of tourists in the evening, and the coast is not occupied by chain hotel giants. Corsica is a quiet, measured vacation, where you can fully immerse yourself in the unhurried rhythm of the salty sea breeze and live moments from sunset to sunrise.

There is everything here for tourists: unspoiled, untamed nature with several natural parks, mountain landscapes, forests and wonderful beaches; cute villages, pretty towns with rich history; interesting trekking routes for hikers. There are also several festivals in Corsica: "Mediterranean Cinema" (November) and "Musical Encounters" (December) in Bastia, "Jazz" (June) and "Wind" (October) in Calvi. There are some wonderful art and history museums.

The best way to get around the island is by rented transport, as the bus service between the settlements is not very well developed.

You can get to Corsica by sea or by air. In the first case, there are many options from the south France (Marseille, Monaco, Nice).

It is also possible to get to Corsica from Italy (Sardinia, Rome, Naples).

In the second option you can fly to Corsica from France and other European countries, flights are operated by Air Corsica, EasyJet, Volotea, Airlinair, Jetairfly, Norwegian, Transavia.

Accommodation depends strongly on the season of visiting the island, for example, in May the average price for accommodation in Bastia, in a 3* hotel - from €95 for double accommodation, and in Propriano, in a 5* hotel - from €350 for double accommodation. Another option is camping, where prices are more democratic (from €40).

Best beaches

It is difficult to choose a few of the best beaches, as there are about 200 of them on the island. But still, when planning a trip, it is worth paying attention to the following ones:

Calvi beach

This beach offers a great view of the town of Calvi, as well as the local fortress. The white sand and long coastline (about 6 km) will not leave you indifferent. There are plenty of cafes and bars nearby, so you can have a good time from early morning to late evening.

Cupabia Beach

This beach will be a real find for those who want to relax away from civilization. Here you can enjoy sunbathing, azure water and snow-white sand.

Arinella Beach

This quiet beach is located near the lovely town of Lumio. It is protected by the surrounding green hills, and the clear water is a reflection of the overhanging hills. It is ideal for snorkelers.

Palombaggia & Santa Giulia Beach

South of the harbor town Porto Vecchio are two wonderful beaches. The same white sand and clear water that you are used to in Corsica. There are several camping sites nearby, so nature lovers can have a great time in close proximity to the best Corsican beaches.

Roccapina Beach

Another wonderful beach in a wild and remote location will take you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Here you can be alone with nature, and if you come early in the morning, you can swim and sunbathe alone. The beach is located in a cozy cove and has a tiny size by Corsican standards.

Cappiciolo Beaches

The area around the town of Cappiciolo has some lovely micro-beaches separated by coves. They are not always easy to access, but they are truly paradisiacal places. You will not be disturbed by anyone swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, exploring the underwater world of the area. And in the evening you can have a picnic while enjoying a superb sunset.

Other excellent beaches that are also worth your attention are Loto, Saleccia, Pinarello, San Ciprianu, Bodri and others.

Attractions

Many people probably know that Corsica is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, and more precisely - the town of Ajaccio. Here there is a house-museum of the Bonapartes, an estate that belonged to this family. In the museum you can see in what conditions the future ruler of France lived, learn historical facts about the life of the commander.

The old town of Bonifacio is one of the most spectacular in the entire Mediterranean. Its main attraction is that the walls of the citadel and the old houses are perched on sheer limestone cliffs. From the water it seems as if all these buildings are hanging in the air. Many small coves, grottos and harbors have formed under the cliffs. Only 11 kilometers from the city is the coast of the Italian island of Sardinia.

The main port of Corsica - Bastia lies at the base of the Cap Corse peninsula. Founded by the Genoese in 1380 and protected by a powerful bastion, Bastia was the capital of Corsica until 1811. The city has a picturesque old harbor and a quaint Old Town, which was a fishing village - Terra Vecchia with a labyrinth of narrow streets and tightly "packed" houses. The most important sights of the city are the Cathedral of St. Jean-Baptiste, the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, the Chapel of St. Roch, and the Genoese citadel.

The Calanche Cliffs are an amazing natural phenomenon of the Mediterranean that will not leave anyone indifferent. They are located in the Le Calanche National Park, which includes high sharp cliffs, the sea coast and wooded hills. Many people consider this place to be the most romantic on the whole island. The cliffs are especially beautiful at sunset, when they take on a special red color, and in one place even form a non-man-made heart.

Filitosa is the most mystical place in Corsica. This is where the Druids, of whom we have heard from the books of the French epic, held their rituals. On the grounds you can see monolithic stone statues and bas-reliefs depicting human faces that were part of religious processions 3,000 years ago. No one still knows the true purpose of these statues.
