Nice is the most popular resort on France's Côte d'Azur. The public beach with free showers and a volleyball court is located below the Promenade des Anglais. It is not noted for its cleanliness, so the paid beaches located in the eastern part of the bay are more popular among tourists and locals. If you plan to rent a car, visit the beaches in Antibes (there is also the famous Marineland, which combines a water park, dolphinarium and amusement park).
If you are indifferent to beach vacation, you will not be bored anyway, because Nice ranks second in France in the number of museums. Art connoisseurs will be happy to know that the city houses collections of works by such masters as Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall, while the Museum of Modern Art features more than 1,200 sculptures, paintings and installations created from the 1960s to the present day.
Those interested in history should check out the Archaeological Museum, built near the site of the Roman city of Cemenelum, which is now being excavated. The ruins of the walls and thermae (baths) have been preserved, and the exposition contains interesting findings that allow you to learn more about the life of the inhabitants of the Roman settlement.
