Seychelles comprises over 120 islands, each with its own distinct geological characteristics. Traditionally, there are 43 islands referred to as the Seychelles proper, known as the inner islands. The remaining islands that do not fall into this list are known as the outer islands. This division is based on the geological origin of the islands, which also determines their regional names.
The inner islands are primarily composed of granite rocks, while the outer islands have a coral base.
