Administratively Slovenia is divided into 12 regions. There are as many as 212 communities, which we will not list. But we have collected for you the names of Slovenia's regions, which will make it easier to navigate when traveling. All of them are due to the country's long history, and most of them have their own attractions and interesting places. No matter where you are going, whether you are going to the southern or northern regions of Slovenia, castles, ancient towns, vineyards and ancient traditions are waiting for you everywhere.

Gorica region (Goriska regia) - the beauty of these places is dissolved in the picturesque alpine peaks and valleys of Triglav National Park. You will find here the enchanting wine-growing regions of Goriška Brda and Vipava Valley. Visit the romantic highlands near the towns of Cerkno and Idrija. The most famous attraction of the region is the emerald Soča River. The capital of these places is considered to be modern Nova Gorica.
Gorenjska region (Gorenjska regia) - unforgettable views of lakes Bled and Bohinj, the peaks of the Julian and Kamnik-Sawinj Alps, countless opportunities for active recreation surrounded by nature in the mountain resort Kranjska Gora. The ancient town of Kranj attracts tourists all year round.
The coastal Karst region (Obalno-Kraska regia) borders the sea. Colorful Mediterranean towns on the Adriatic coast await you. There are many karst caves, olive plantations and vineyards, orchards of peaches and cherries. Koper, Izola, Peran and other towns await you.
Inner Karst region (Notranjska Kraška regia) - forests and caves, that's what you can say about these places. Start your journey in Postojna, and be sure to visit Ilirska Bystrica.
The Middle Slovenian region (Osredneslovenska regija) belongs to the central regions of Slovenia. Not only Ljubljana, the country's capital, but also ancient Barje, where people used to live in houses on stilts, and magnificent Kamnik and Litija await you.
Region Southeastern Slovenia (Reggija Jugovzohodna Slovenia) is full of charming hillside vineyards, churches, castles and monasteries, mighty forests and delicate birch groves. Well-known resorts are Ribnica, Žužemberk, Trebne, Šmarješké Toplice and Novo Mesto. Almost everywhere has its own castle.
Zasava region (Zasavska regia) stretches on both sides of the Sava River on the spurs of the Posava Mountains. Their colorful peaks were once crossed by trade routes, and today the mountains and the heights above the towns of Zagorje, Trbovlje and Hrastnik are favorite places for excursions and recreation.
Nizhneposavska region (Spodneposavska regia) is a fertile plain, rolling hills and vineyards. There are also many attractions. The Krka and Sotla rivers flow here. The towns of Brežice, Krško and Sevnica are full of secrets and mysteries.
Savinjska region (Savińska regia) - beautiful alpine valleys, unspoiled corners of the Koziansko region and many climatic health resorts. Visit Solchava, Luče, Radmirje. And, of course, Celje with its Celje Castle.
Korusz region (Koroszka regia) covers three valleys - Mezyszka, Dravska and Mislińska, as well as three mountain ranges: Pohorje, Karawanki and Sawińskie Alps. Ski Kope awaits you. Three towns, Sloven Hradec, Ravne na Koroszkem and Dravograd will appeal to lovers of small mountain towns and picturesque landscapes.
Pomur region (Pomurska regia) is a country of mills and vineyards, a hospitable agricultural region. The thermal spa Radenci, Gornja Radgona and Murska Sobota with its marvelous castle are located here.
Podrava region (Podravska regia) is the land of castles, though you can say that about almost any region in Slovenia. The surroundings of the Drava River offer great recreational opportunities. There is the second largest Slovenian city of Maribor and the ski resort of Maribor Pohorje. Also visit Ptuj with its marvelous Ptuj Castle. There are also castles in Slovenska Bystrica and Ormož.
