Seafood and desserts, sauces and spicy seasonings are pleasant to taste against the backdrop of medieval walls or cruise ships, beach restaurants or country villas. The national cuisine in Ibiza is more Mediterranean after all.
Pork is very common on the island - it is the basis of most dishes and the raw material for sobrasada, a thick raw pork sausage with spices. One of the things to try in Ibiza is tumbet - stewed potatoes with peppers, eggplant and meat additives - an incredibly tasty dish!
Paella, rice with fish (called brut), fried fish and delicious lobsters are also popular on the island.
The simplest and most favorite dish is bread with olive oil and tomatoes, cheese or sausage - pa am oli. and of course, the classic tapas.
Don't forget to try the local sweets: flao, grixonera, orelletes.
Ibiza makes wines from the local grape varieties Monastrell, Grenache, Caber-net Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Merlot. The island also produces a liqueur called Hierbas ibicencas using eight local herbal ingredients. Another popular liqueur is called Cafe caleta.
