Because of the island's small size, Samet's public transportation options are limited to songteos, or tuk-tuks as tourists sometimes call them. To get around on your own, you can rent a motorcycle, bicycle or golf cart.
Songteo on the island
Songteo is a roofless pickup truck with two benches on the sides. The tuk-tuks dejourn at Dan Pier, so they're the first thing you'll see after crossing. From the pier, songteos take tourists to the beaches, departing as they fill up.
It's harder to leave the beach than the pier, especially in low season. Since there are few vacationers, you can wait 30-40 minutes for a songteo to fill up.
Price
The fare is from 10 THB to 70 THB, and depends on the distance of the trip.
It is possible to rent the whole minibus, then the trip to the beach will cost from 100 to 650 THB. This is very convenient for large companies or vacationers with children.
For 1000 THB, you can go around all the beaches of Samet.
Motorbike on Samet
If you know how to ride a motorcycle, it's perfect for getting around the mountainous roads of Samet. Plus, for the price, it's the most budget-friendly option.
To rent a bike, you'll need to leave copies of your documents at the office. Gasoline is usually already in the tank, enough to get around the island.
Transportation rental points
Finding a rental transportation point on Samet is no problem, they start right at the pier, and are located further south on the road. There are about a dozen of them along the road.
There are also rental shops on the biggest beaches.
Price
You can rent a bike on the island for 100 THB per hour, or 300 THB per day.
Newer models of bikes can be rented for 400 THB per day.
Bicycle rental on the island
Some rental shops rent out bicycles. But this transportation is not very popular. Riding the steep slopes and climbs of Samet on a bicycle is hard, especially during the day, in the sun.
Golf car on Samet
There are rental companies that rent out small golf machines. They run on electricity and are very convenient and safe. The only downside is the high price.
Samet Island is very small, if you want, you can even walk around all its beaches in a day. But it's not really convenient, as some of them are separated by cliffs or jungle. You can easily get to all the beaches and sights on the island on a songteo, and if you rent a motorcycle or bicycle, you can easily explore all the beaches and sights without rushing.
