Alanya Walking Routes

Let's tell you where to go in Alanya.

This resort is unique in that all the city's landmarks are concentrated in one place: on the mountain and around it, where the famous fortress is located. You can explore them on your own by choosing one of the walking routes.

A day trip walking route in Alanya

This tourist route is designed for a whole day and will require some expenses for tickets to some buildings and the cable car. You should start early in the morning after having a hearty breakfast.

Cleopatra Beach and Surroundings

The journey begins at the famous Cleopatra Beach, where you can swim in the sea at the start of the trip. Then, you can explore the Damlatas Cave, which is located just 100 meters away from the beach area.

  • Entry is paid. However, we recommend purchasing a combined ticket to see not only the cave but also the Tersane Shipyard and the Red Tower. Each ticket separately will cost significantly more.

After that, you can go back and purchase a ticket for the cable car, which will take you to the mountaintop, to the Ehmedek Fortress. You will have to walk a few meters on wooden platforms. Here, in addition to Ehmedek, you can also visit:

  • The inner fortress of Ick-Kale. Inside, you will find water cisterns and a partially ruined St. George's Church;

  • The active Suleymaniye Mosque;

  • A ticket-free museum called Traditional Turkish House. Follow the signs from the mosque to get there.

From here, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Cape of Gelidonya and the Mediterranean Sea. If you bring binoculars or a camera, you may be able to see the Christian monastery on the cape. The road to it is impassable.

After seeing all the landmarks, you can walk down the mountain on paths that pass near the highway. The descent will take about an hour. Beautiful houses are located on both sides of the path-streets. This is part of Old Alanya. By the way, while descending, take the Red Tower as a landmark - try to get as close to it as possible.

Red Tower

If you bought a combined entrance ticket, it also applies to this attraction. After exploring it, visit the shipyard, which is located 250 meters from the Tower. This place will be especially liked by children.

Part of the road leads along the fortress wall with installed cannons. On this section of the path, there are also medieval throwing machines. Locals call this "the path of guards." After that, return back and head to the waterfront.

Lighthouse and Archaeological Museum

The lighthouse with many ships is located on the waterfront. Most of them are dressed as medieval ships. If you are lucky to negotiate with the lighthouse keepers, they will let you inside. Along the waterfront, there are many kiosks with ice cream and corn. Then take a walk along Damlatash Street. Walk along it and across it, exploring the contents of shops and kiosks. And finally, visit the archaeological museum.

It includes all the above-mentioned attractions plus a few more, namely:

  • Arsenal, which can be viewed after the shipyard. This tower leads up the path to the fortress. Please note that the climb will not be easy.

  • Fortress wall. During the ascent, pay attention to the fact that there are steps in the place where the wall goes up sharply. Be careful not to trip or fall. Below are huge and sharp boulders.

    Exploring the city on your own is not difficult at all. The main thing is to wear comfortable shoes and take water and food with you.
