Basic information about Svalyava

The word Svalyava is definitely connected with salt, here from ancient times this valuable product was extracted, exporting it to neighboring countries. The place where Svalyava is located is nestled in the bends of the rivers Latoritsa and Svalyavka. Beautiful valley in the spurs of Transcarpathian mountains Svalyava district has long attracted the attention of guests. Svalyava is a famous balneological resort not only in Ukraine, but also abroad. Mineral water in these parts is a real attraction, a priceless gift of nature.

Svalyava was founded in the 12th century, although excavations show that people settled here much earlier. For example, there are burials of the Venedi with weapons and utensils nearby. From the very beginning it was a settlement of the Galicia-Volyn principality. The population of Svalyava is densely mixed, there are Ukrainians and Slovaks, Hungarians, Ruthenians and Russians. Confessions are represented by many directions. The town, having gotten used to the abundance of different nations, still attracts the attention of many foreign visitors.

The currency in use here is the Ukrainian hryvnia, UAH. Many hotels and sanatoriums, focusing on the guests from Europe, duplicate the prices in EUR and USD, but nevertheless, there are exchange offices in the city, where you can easily change the necessary amount. Dozens of sanatoriums, health centers, ordinary hotels and tourist complexes, extensive private sector, common for the Carpathians and Transcarpathia, are open for guests from all over Europe.

Svalyava itself is a district center, and the resort area here stretches to the villages of Golubinoe, Solochin and Polyana. Shuttle buses and cabs bring you here in a matter of minutes.
