Safety in New Orleans

Paradoxically, Hurricane Kartina helped to "reboot" the public, social and tourist spheres of New Orleans and create comfortable conditions for living and recreation.

In the years since the disaster, the reputation of the region's main delicacy, Louisiana shrimp, has been restored (all seafood on restaurant tables is certified in accordance with strict environmental requirements) and, thanks to police reform, crime in the region has been curbed.

The only thing to be wary of in New Orleans is pickpocketing, which occurs mostly in the central tourist area of the city. Travelers are advised to leave large sums of money in hotel safes, withdraw money from ATMs in malls, and avoid nighttime strolls on poorly lit streets. The worst conditions are in the suburbs of New Orleans, which have not recovered from the hurricane.
