View over Kitzbühel

The history of Kitzbühel dates back to the early Middle Ages, with the first mention of it dating back to the 12th century. However, Kitzbühel may have been founded even earlier, as the first settlements were established here before our era. The people who lived here were mainly miners and prospectors, extracting building stone, silver and copper.

The name "Chizbuhel" was first mentioned in 1156 in a historical document, and comes from the name of a local nobleman "Chizzo" and the word "buhel", "on the hill".

You can still find old mansions in the center of the city that look like they've been painted by medieval artists. If you're going to Kitzbühel, you don't have to worry about currency, as Austria, as a European Union state, has the euro. There are plenty of exchange offices here and there are practically no problems with exchange.
