Sozopol is one of the oldest towns on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. During underwater explorations in the port area, remains of dwellings, ceramic vessels, stone and bone tools, as well as many anchors from the second and first millennium BC were discovered.
The city is full of attractions, for example, there are three monastery complexes on its territory, two of them on the islands of St. Ivan and St. Kirik, and the third one right in the center of the Old Town. In addition, there are several churches - the Church of St. Zosimas, the Church of St. Theotokos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius, and the Church of St. George the Great Martyr. It is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum and the architectural and historical complex "Southern Fortress Wall and Tower". In addition, if time permits, you can drive around the neighborhood of Sozopol, for example, to see the Thracian fortresses in the area of Bakarlyk.
