The warmest sea in the resort is in July, August and September (about +26-28°C), with the beginning of October the water gradually cools down and in November is +22-23°C. In winter, the water temperature in the Mediterranean Sea drops to +16-17°C, the real warming begins in the second half of April (up to +19-19.5°C).
In May the water temperature in the Mediterranean Sea near Protaras is already "summer" (+21-22°C) and you can start the full beach season. The water warms up faster on the beaches of Protaras than anywhere else in Cyprus due to the presence of breakwaters and natural bays.
The beaches are a flat strip, from which every 300-400 meters breakwaters go into the sea - this allows to reduce the waves of the Mediterranean Sea in this area as much as possible. As a result, almost all the beaches of Protaras are secluded bays surrounded by rocks or groves.
