Regions of Egypt

Traditionally, Egypt is divided into six main regions, which are:

• Upper Egypt
• Middle Egypt
• Lower Egypt
• Western Desert
• The Red Sea coast
• The Sinai Peninsula

If you'd like more details about these regions, the Western Desert is situated on the left side of the Nile and contains only a few oases within its territory. This region typically experiences lower tourist demand.

The central region of Egypt comprises the Lower, Upper, and Middle regions, all of which are nourished by the waters of the Nile. Within these regions, you'll find the largest and most developed cities in the country. Additionally, the coastal areas along the Red Sea can be considered part of this central region.

This region is internationally renowned for being a popular resort area, offering numerous beaches and exciting activities for a memorable vacation.

The largest cities within this region are considered to be:

• Cairo - a city of contrasts that manages to combine the country's historical components, including both Christians and followers of Islam.
• Alexandria - one of the oldest cities in Egypt, often referred to as the "Egyptian Pearl" for its transformation from a small village into a majestic city.
• Rosetta - formerly known for its important port and now famous for the Rosetta Stone, which was discovered in its territory not too long ago.
• Hurghada - one of the most popular resorts on the Red Sea coast, offering tourists a combination of relaxation and water activities.

The northern regions of Egypt include the Sinai Peninsula. Although it is territorially located in Asia, this region boasts numerous resort towns and fascinating places that attract tourists from all around the world. The most popular cities in this area are:

• Sharm el-Sheikh - the primary resort town of Sinai, known for its abundance of 4 and 5-star hotels, and its economy is largely driven by tourism.
• Dahab - a young and thriving resort in the eastern part of the Sinai Peninsula, attracting diving and windsurfing enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy exploring colorful sand canyons.

Southern regions of Egypt are not very popular with tourists, as there are very few entertainment, promoted resorts and interesting places here. The most popular city here is considered Aswan. It has the title of the hottest city on the planet. Here you can visit the marvelous botanical gardens, the temple of Isis or find the famous Aswan Dams.
