Egypt is a popular tourist destination, but not everyone is familiar with the best practices for a positive vacation experience in this country. When visiting this sunny destination, it's essential to keep in mind some helpful tips:
1. Alcohol is sold on every corner in Egypt, but getting drunk and rowdy in public places is not a good idea as there is a good chance of spending the night in police custody.
2. Egypt is a Muslim country. Once here during Ramadan, it is forbidden to smoke in public places, drink (even water) and eat outside.
3. The state religion imposes strict requirements to the appearance of not only Egyptians, but also tourists. Topless sunbathing is forbidden on local beaches and is strictly enforced by the police.
4. Tap water in Egypt leaves much to be desired, so it should not be used for drinking, washing dishes, fruits and vegetables, or brushing your teeth. Use bottled or boiled water for these purposes.
5. Don't skimp on tipping hotel staff. This will ensure that you are comfortable and treated with respect.
6. It is strictly forbidden to take corals, sea shells and other seafood out of Egypt. The fine for this violation will be 7,900 EGR.
7. Hotels are not responsible for the safety of your belongings, money and jewelry, so all valuable things should be left at home. Be sure to use a safe in your room.
8. If you decide to ride a camel, be prepared for the fact that you can get on it for free, but you will have to pay to get off.
9. When swimming in the sea, try not to touch its inhabitants with your hands, some of them may be poisonous.
