As an important gateway to China and a link to the outside world, Shanghai was the first Chinese city to have two international airports, Pudong and Hongqiao.
Pudong Airport specializes in handling international flights, while Hongqiao, the city's second largest airport, focuses on domestic and regional flights. Located about 30 kilometers from the city center and 40 kilometers from Hongqiao Airport, Pudong consists of two passenger terminals and is the busiest international hub in China. Currently, the airport serves about 560 flights daily.
Hongqiao Airport, located in the west of Shanghai and about 13 kilometers from the city center, is a key hub for domestic flights, offering a limited number of international destinations. More than 8 million passengers use the services of this airport each year.
