Italy has 16 operating airports at the beginning of 2020. Each major tourist center has an air gateway.
The largest is considered to be Leonardo da Vinci Rome-Fiumicino, located 30 km from the center of the Italian capital. In 2019, its passenger traffic amounted to about 37 million people.
Another Rome airport named after Giovanni Batista Pastine, which is located 15 km from the city center in the town of Ciampino, now specializes exclusively in domestic flights.
