You can go to Cannes directly from Côte d'Azur Airport without having to stop in Nice. Every half hour to an hour, buses toward Cannes approach the stops near the terminals. An hour or two drive (depending on the traffic jams on the road) and you're there. You can buy a ticket at the ticket offices near the stops or directly on the bus. The minimum fare is 2-3 EUR (route 200).
In addition, a more expensive express bus operates between Cannes and Nice. At night, except on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, buses do not run. You can find detailed information about the schedule of this service on the airport’s website.
You can also reach the festival capital by train. The journey takes about half an hour (not including waiting time). A ticket (available online on the carrier’s website or directly at the station) costs around 6–7 EUR. The Nice-Saint-Augustin station (Gare de Nice-Saint-Augustin), from where trains depart for Cannes, is located near the airport. You can board any train heading in the right direction, as the departure time is not indicated on the ticket.
If you arrive in Nice late in the evening not between Thursday and Saturday, you can only get to your destination by car. In this case, you can either take a taxi (you'll be charged around 90 EUR to Cannes, 70-80 EUR during the day) or rent a car.
Hire a car in advance via Internet or directly at the airport. The parking lots of the major rental car companies are located near the second terminal in the multi-story parking lot behind parking lot P5. The A8, RN98, RN7 highways lead to Cannes.
