If you want to visit the very "cradle" of Paris, go to the Seine embankment. It was here that the city was founded - the ancient Celts (to be precise, the Parisians - it was thanks to them that Paris became Paris) built the settlement of Lutetia on the island of Cité back in the 2nd century BC.
In the V century Paris became the main city of the Merovingian kingdom - at an incredible pace in the new capital began to build temples, monasteries and fortresses. Since then, it is hard to say what Paris has not had: the fires of the Inquisition raged here, hundreds of thousands of lives were lost in the Hundred Years' War and the plague, the bells of the church of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois rang out on the ominous Bartholomew's Night, the Bastille fell and the Republic was born.
The famous Belle Époque cemented the city's fame as a fashion capital, and the student revolutions of the 1960s only emphasized the rebellious spirit of Paris. Most importantly, Paris has managed to preserve the monuments of all these eras - all you have to do is see them with your own eyes!
