Cableway in Tbilisi

We will tell you about the most beautiful place in Tbilisi, where every tourist can enjoy the view of the city, as well as how to get to the cable car and the cost of visiting.

This attraction is very popular among both locals and tourists. The cable car not only offers the opportunity to enjoy the local scenery from above, but also quickly takes you to the picturesque ruins of the Narikala Fortress. Even if you're afraid of heights, try to overcome your fear and take a ride — the cable car is modern and completely safe.

Information

The cable car began operating in 2012 and quickly became extremely popular. In 2017, the cabins were replaced with new, very comfortable ones, which made the ride even safer.

The cabins hold up to eight passengers, with a total of seven cabins. They move smoothly without stopping — only slowing down at the stations to allow passengers to get on or off.

The length of the ride is 600 meters. It is shorter than the Batumi cable car, but just as beautiful. The trip to the top of the hill, where the fortress is located, takes just 2 minutes. There are many people using the cable car, but no long queues.

What to see at the top

At the top, there is a viewing platform with stunning panoramic views of Tbilisi. After enjoying the scenery, tourists often visit the Narikala Fortress or another nearby landmark — the Mother of Georgia statue (Mother Kartli). This 20-meter monument is considered a symbol of the city.

You can return either by cable car or on foot through the city’s charming streets. We recommend walking back to take in the beautiful surroundings.

When heading to the cable car, bring water, as there are no shops at the top, and don’t forget a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
