Excursions in Kardamena can be divided into several types:
sightseeing tours in Kardamena: a guide will tell you about the history of the town’s foundation, the development of shipbuilding and local traditions;
bus excursions outside Kardamena. The most popular routes include visits to the Asklepion, the village of Paleo Pili and the thermal springs in the village of Therma (4 km from the resort of Agios Fokas, cost — from 15 EUR per person);
sea excursions offer several route options: a sightseeing trip along the coast of the island of Kos with fishing and barbecue on one of the picturesque beaches (cost — from 50 EUR per person); a trip to the extinct volcano (its last eruption occurred about 700 years ago) on the island of Nisyros (cost — from 40 EUR per person). The volcano deserves a more detailed story. According to legend, the giant Polybotes angered Poseidon, and in revenge the god threw a piece of the island of Kos at him. Polybotes survived but could not get out from under the rock. He has been sighing ever since, lamenting his fate. Besides the volcano, the island of Nisyros is home to the Church of Panagia Spiliani, healing springs, a castle, a monastery and ancient ruins. From Kardamena you can reach the island by boat (travel time — about one hour);
themed excursions, for example, a Greek fishing party. Cost — from 30 EUR per person.
