Where is Cardamena located?
Kardamena is a small town in the southwest of the Greek island of Kos. Today it boasts clean sandy beaches, numerous bars and discos by the sea, luxury hotel complexes with all kinds of spa treatments. Thanks to this and many other things, Kardamena is considered the vice-champion in popularity among the resorts of Kos island, yielding the leadership only to its capital. Kardamena is separated from the latter by about 30 kilometers.
The town has a population of about 1800 inhabitants, most of whom are engaged in the tourist business or fishing.
The national currency is the euro (EUR).
History of the city of Cardamena
There is no precise data on when Cardamena was founded. Probably around the same time as the city of Kos (around V-IV centuries BC, although the first settlements appeared here much earlier - in the XI century BC). In the III century BC the city was called Alasarna and was considered one of the most important strategic sites of Kos island. The main occupations of the locals were military campaigns and fishing. Not much has changed since then - the town is still considered the main fishing point of the island.
In recent years, Kardamena has evolved from a small village into a holidays and festivals, as well as in beautiful modern resort, with wonderfully equipped sandy beaches.
