Let's try to highlight the main cost items and figure out the price of a vacation in Budapest.
Hotel accommodation - at a minimum, expect to pay 30 EUR per night. For such money, you can pay for a vacation for two in Budapest (double room in a cheap hotel).
Food - if your vacation is planned to be economical, it makes sense to buy food in supermarkets. For example, in Auchan (Dunakeszi, Nádas u.6, Újpest district) - there is a free bus from Heroes' Square. Or in chain stores like Kaiser's, Aldi, Spar, Penny, Tesco.
In cafes the cost of all dishes is about the same - 1500-5000 HUF, portions in Budapest are huge. By the way, many establishments have special "tourist" sets of dishes - they are designated as Napi Menu and include 3 dishes at a more favorable price. As a rule, Napi Menu includes spicy chicken wings and goulash as a hot dish.
Also look for the word Etkezdek ("cheap lunch") on restaurant signs, or find one of the Fozelekfalo (kind of like our canteens). Or just go to Kádár Étkezde (Klauzál tér, 9), one of the cheapest restaurants with national cuisine.
It's best to bring your own cigarettes; in Budapest, the cheapest pack costs from 900 HUF.
A vacation in Budapest (reviews will confirm this!) is impossible without excursions - individual walks with a Russian-speaking guide will cost on average 6000-10000 HUF, a ticket for a tour bus will cost from 4000 HUF.
It's best to travel to Budapest with euros and change them into forints at local exchange offices.
