When it's cheaper and more fun to go to Budapest, we'll try to find out.
Summer.
July and August are the warmest months of the year, with average temperatures of +21-22ºC. This is the peak tourist season, so get ready to make your hotel reservations in advance. Especially at the end of July, when the city hosts the Formula 1 round.
There's no need to check the weather in Budapest every 3 days - summers are clear, with the occasional torrential downpour (a folding umbrella in your backpack is a must!). Another disadvantage is that the weather forecast for summer Budapest promises heat up to +30ºC.
Spring.
When is the best time to visit Budapest if not in spring? The period from late March to June is considered the best time to visit the city - by early April the air is already warming up to +20ºC and you can walk around in a T-shirt and light shoes. There's no tourist influx yet, the gardens on Mount Gellert are blooming, and locals are even rushing to sunbathe in one of the city's parks.
It's in spring that Budapest hosts its biggest arts festivals. Just in case, check the weather in Budapest for the week before your flight and stock up on raincoats - precipitation isn't catastrophic, but it is likely!
Autumn.
The average temperature in September-October is +11-16ºC, and the weather in Budapest is warm and usually clear. In the first months of fall there is a minimum of precipitation, so it will be enough to know the weather in Budapest for the next 14 days before departure. Rains and colder weather come at the end of October.
Winter.
The coldest months in Budapest are December and January, when temperatures can drop to -15ºC (this is rare, as a rule the thermometer does not drop below 1-2ºC). Should I go to Budapest in winter? If you're prepared for cold weather and snowfall, of course you should!
In December and early January, it's New Year's Eve season with all the trimmings: a huge ice-skating rink in Varosliget Park, a Christmas fair in Vörösmarty Square, kürtesz kalacha and punch. However, you'll have to check the weather in Budapest for every 5 days - precipitation is unpredictable at this time. Late January and February are low season in Budapest, with prices almost 2-3 times lower than in summer (this is the most convincing reason to visit Budapest in winter).
