Tours and excursions in Malta make up the main content of a tourist's life. Of course, you can come here for a long time to learn English in local schools on special programs. Or, for example, to spend time on the beaches of the Mediterranean island.
But vacation in Malta is primarily educational. This is a chance to plunge into ancient history, shrouded in mystery. Each city, literally every settlement in these parts remember the gray antiquity. Reviews about excursions in Malta recommend to start the trip with a tour of Valletta or, for example, from Sliema, which is also a good transport interchange.
Prices for excursions in Malta are quite small. If you are satisfied with English language, you will be given a bearable excursion in English in any city of the country for 10-12 EUR. But, of course, if you want a professional approach and you are looking for a guide-interpreter, it is better to focus on well-thought-out, official and seriously filled excursions.
So, a short excursion walk around the capital of Malta will cost 30-40 EUR, but you will visit not all museums of Valletta, you will learn only the most interesting pages of its history. A full-fledged walk with visiting, for example, the Palace of the Grand Master, the Upper Gardens of Baracca and numerous museums of the capital will cost 200 EUR. However, this price is usually spread over 2-6 people, so you may end up with the same price.
A trip to the island of Gozo with a visit to megalithic buildings and the central fortress costs 60-80 EUR per person in a group of 2-6 people, and takes 3-4 hours. For such excursions it is better to choose autumn, September-October, or spring around April. In summer it will be very hot in Gozo. Excursions to medieval Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua can take all day. They are not difficult to reach, either on foot, by bus or by ferry from Valletta. It makes sense to go to Mdina, the former capital of Malta. The medieval streets of these two cities are in the heart of the island.
On average, the prices for such walks range from 10-20 EUR for a good, but not too professional approach and up to 100-200 EUR for serious options. And there are also bicycle, helicopter, sea excursions. If you see that somewhere show a theatrical performance on the Middle Ages, pay attention to it. It captures the spirit and atmosphere of the island wonderfully. Read more about what you can see in Malta here, in the attractions section.
