Where is Acapulco located? A little history

To understand where Acapulco is, just find the two most beautiful bays on a map of Mexico. Surrounded by palm trees and white sand, this exotic resort is nestled among them.

The resort town has a long and storied history. Acapulco was founded back in 1530, when Spanish ships settled here. The Spanish conquistadors used their fleet to trade Mexican goods with the rest of the developed world.

Ships loaded with Mexican silverware and other luxury goods traveled to the Philippines, where traders from around the world met to sell and buy goods. After the Mexican goods were sold, Spanish ships would return to Acapulco, bringing with them Chinese silk, spices, ivory, pearls, and precious stones. These early Spanish traders helped introduce the people of Mexico to the world.

Nowadays, people come to Acapulco from all over the world, but not necessarily in search of silk, ivory, and spices. It is also famous for its distinctive entertainment, its many days of sunshine, and its unforgettable sea surf.

Thanks to the fact that the Mexican resort is considered the oldest and most popular in Central America, the population of Acapulco today has more than 670 thousand people. More than 70% of them are employed in tourism and commerce.
