Budva has a typical Mediterranean climate: warm, rainy winters and long, mostly dry hot summers. The Budva coast is considered one of the hottest and sunniest regions in Montenegro. In summer the temperature here stays around +23-28°C. The thermometer shows +30°C in July.
November is called the "rainy season" in Budva, but even in summer there can be a sudden downpour or storm. January is the coldest month of the year. At this time the temperature in Budva sometimes goes into the minus, but usually does not fall below +4°C.
The resort season officially starts in the first decade of May and lasts until the first decade of November. Some people open the bathing season in April, but most people don't get into the water until June. By July the Adriatic Sea warms up to +25°C. The tides are low and the water is clear.
The coast can be dominated by different winds: the bora, a dangerous north wind from the continent, the sirocco, a wind that blows from the sea and brings cloudy, rainy weather, and the mistral, which makes Budva easy to bear even when it is very hot.
Budva's vegetation and wildlife
Lush Mediterranean vegetation in Budva is represented by mimosa, palms, cypresses, oleanders. Oranges, pomegranates, olives and grapes grow in the courtyards. Hospitable Montenegrins can treat you to a lemon or tangerine straight from the tree.
The fauna of the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Budva is rich in mullet, sea bass, mackerel, herring, as well as octopus, squid, lobster, mussels, oysters and other underwater fauna. You can buy fresh catch after 4 p.m. on the waterfront near the boats or at the fish store next to TQ Plaza.
Turtles and swans swim in the resort's park ponds. Budva's terrestrial wildlife includes numerous squirrels and cats.
