Climate in Marbella

The vegetation and animal life of Marbella

Thanks to its unique subtropical climate (many find it similar to the Canary Islands), Marbella's vegetation is very diverse: palm and fir trees, orange and olive trees, orchids and magnolias. If you are lucky enough to be in Marbella on Christmas Eve, you will be able to see a stunning local flower - poinsettia, or as it is called, "Christmas Star". These large red flowers are used to decorate houses and shop windows, and some shopkeepers even create Christmas trees out of them - the poinsettia is considered a symbol of the Star of Bethlehem.

Marbella has plenty of wildlife. Many species of migratory birds winter here, so even in winter there is a chirp in the air. The best place to discover Marbella's wildlife is at the Montes del Malaga reserve near Málaga, which is home to around 40 species. Or in the safari park Selwo Aventura in the neighborhood - there you can see not only the local fauna, but even elephants, lemurs and giant anacondas.
