Water temperature in Puerto de la Cruz
The temperature data on the beaches of Puerto de la Cruz can make any tourist happy. In winter, the water temperature in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the city does not fall below +20°C, and in summer it does not rise above +26°C. But the illusion of swimming in the ocean all day long dissipates on your first visit to the beach.
The ocean has a tricky character that can change a thousand times during the day. And more often than not, it's capricious and fiery. The huge waves will delight surfers. The rest of us are mostly sunbathing on the beach, no matter what the temperature of the Atlantic Ocean is.
Two of the city's beaches, Playa de San Telmo and Playa Jardin, are equipped with breakwaters, so when the ocean isn't too rough, you can swim here. Especially when the temperature of the Atlantic Ocean is favorable. On other days, tourists prefer to swim in the artificial beach complex "Lago Martianes".
Of course, there are tides in the ocean. During low tides, the wild shore becomes rocky and not very comfortable for swimming. But tides are a great way for locals to make money from clams. They collect them from between the bare rocks and sell them to the kitchens of beachside restaurants.
