One of the largest islands in Thailand, Phuket, lies entirely within the equatorial climate zone. Despite this, it has the characteristics of a sub-equatorial climate, with a clear separation between the 'dry' and 'wet' seasons. But the temperature is virtually constant throughout the year.
Phuket's rainy season
Phuket in the rainy season is still attractive for tourists. With temperatures dropping just a few degrees, there's plenty of time to bask in the warm sunshine.
The wet season begins in June and lasts until October. Rainfall on the island is highest in September (up to 410mm). In comparison, during the dry months, rainfall barely reaches 30mm.
The "wet" period in Phuket has the following characteristics:
- Short-term torrential rains 2-3 times a week;
- alternating tropical showers with sunny days;
- high humidity (even on a day without rain);
- large waves at sea, which can bring a significant amount of debris to the coast (during this period, beaches surrounded by reefs are optimal for vacationing).
Even in the heaviest downpours, Phuket never floods. This is due to the island's mountainous landscape. In addition, the city service is very responsive, pumping water out of the streets in a timely manner.
Tides and Tides in Phuket
Some tourists mistakenly believe that during the period when the tides are not so strong, the vacation is much more comfortable. There is actually no particular difference with the time of active movement of the waves:
- Water clarity is not affected;
- the sea is not getting shallower.
In addition, it's virtually impossible to pick a time of year or even a particular month when the tides are less pronounced.
Beaches
At low tide, the beach only takes on the following characteristics:
- The width of the beach becomes 100 meters wider at low tide;
- the algae-covered shore is exposed.
Tides are quite strongly pronounced on such beaches:
- Kata;
- Nighton;
- Bang Tao;
- Nai Yang;
- Mai Kao;
- Panwa.
The beach does not change its width in any way along the following stretches of coastline:
- Caron;
- Kamala;
- Patong;
- Surin;
- Nai Harn.

Phuket's Vegetation and Fauna
The territory of Phuket, as well as the whole territory of Thailand belongs to the Indo-Malay zoogeographic area. Almost the entire island is covered with forests. Tropical vegetation strikes the imagination with its diversity and bright colors. Combined with the azure waves of the Andaman Sea and the white sand of the beaches, the picture is unrealistically beautiful.
The Flora of the Island
The flora of Phuket includes such exotic species of vegetation:
- yang;
- palms;
- bamboo;
- pandanus;
- lianas;
- mango.
In addition, the island's climate favors pineapple, rice, banana, and rubber plantations. The symbol of Thailand - orchids are grown on special farms.
There are several national parks and nature reserves on the island, and you can also visit greenhouses and botanical gardens.
Fauna in Phuket
The fauna of Phuket is equally diverse and attractive. On the island, it is possible to meet:
- Elephants;
- monkeys;
- varans;
- tropical birds.
The richest underwater world attracts hundreds of thousands of people who want to admire it. Magnificent coral reefs attract unusually colored fish and underwater mammals.
The island's evergreen forests are home to deer and wild boar. It is worth noting that more than 70 species of snakes can be found in Thailand, of which 13 are particularly venomous.
Phuket is a great option for vacations planned between December and May. The rest of the year, beach relaxation will be marred by significant rainfall. But even in summer and fall, it's warm and sunny enough. In addition, vacation on the island of Phuket contributes to the local diversity of exotic animal and plant life.
