Public transportation in Tunisia is represented by buses, streetcars and cabs in the cities, modern intercity trains and domestic air travel.
Buses and trams
Tunisia has a very extensive public transportation network. In the capital you will find seven streetcar routes and about thirty bus routes. Tickets for public transportation are relatively inexpensive, at 0.58 TND. For children, the trip is even cheaper, at 0.23 TND. If you plan to stay in the city for a long time, you should buy a bus pass. A two-week ticket costs 2.55-4.55 TND.
Taxi
Taxis in Tunisia are of three types, they differ in coverage and operation.
- Intercity shuttle cabs. Minibuses with a red identifying stripe on the side are worth looking for near train stations and in the city center. You will be able to leave as soon as the car is fully occupied. The amount of payment should be agreed in advance.
- City shuttle cab. The car marked with a blue stripe, designed for five people. Such cabs have an official fare. You will have to find out in advance, so that an unscrupulous cab driver does not decide to make money on your ignorance.
- City cab. An ordinary yellow cab, no different from European cabs, designed for four people. You can order a cab from your hotel or catch one on the street. Paid for a city cab on the meter, so you will not have to argue with the cab driver. The amount is calculated according to the principle: 0.25 TND for landing and 0.25 TND for each kilometer. If you order a cab at night, from 22:00 to 05:00, then be prepared that the fare will double.

Rail transportation
Trains in Tunisia are a great way to travel from city to city with sightseeing and scenery of the country. Railroads are plentiful and built with tourists in mind. Traditionally the routes run through resort towns, but there are also lines far from the coast. Tunisia has several major international class airports. In addition to flights from other countries, they also accept domestic flights, allowing you to travel quickly between cities. There are three domestic airlines in Tunisia: Tunis Air, Tunis Air Express and Sfax Airlines.
