Those who are not familiar with the resorts of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV) are unlikely to know where Vungtau is located. It is located in the south of the country and is the capital of Baria-Vungtau Province. The population of Vungtau is about 240 thousand people.
It is noteworthy that several hundred of them are Russians, who live in a closed community. It was formed since the times of the Soviet Union, when the work of the joint Russian-Vietnamese oil producing plant "Vietsovpetro" was launched. Its headquarters are located in the town. The community is a closed territory with its own administration and infrastructure.
It is difficult to say exactly when Vungtau was founded. It is known that since the XIV to this territory often docked ships, for which it was dubbed "Anchor". But it is believed that the present settlement was founded after the royal troops drove out the pirates in the XVIII century. And the country warriors and their families settled in the territory. When colonizers settled here, the area was named "Saint-Jacques".
Today it is one of the most visited beach resorts in the country, especially by the local population. From the capital Ho Chi Minh City (former Saigon) it takes no more than two hours to get here. Vietnamese dong (VND) is the national currency of the SRV.
