The Flaming Trio, or the Flaming Towers.
The name of this Baku landmark was not chosen by chance: during the day they are glass structures reflecting the Caspian Sea, and in the evening they are giant LED screens backlit in the form of flames. One of the towers houses the most fashionable hotel in the city - Fairmont Baku, another - apartments, the third - an office center.
Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center.
This place is worth visiting not only because it houses a museum and various exhibitions, but also because the building itself is one of a kind. The fact is that the Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid managed to build a structure without a single straight line! For some people, the 60 thousand square meter complex symbolizes the waves of the Caspian Sea, for others - the flow of thoughts, for others - the cycle of history. In 2014, the building was awarded the Design of the Year prize.
Girl's Tower.
Who built it and when is an open question. The same goes for its purpose - whether as a lighthouse, an observatory, or a defense structure. But it is the jewel of the Old Town. There is a legend according to which the tower was built near the Caspian Sea. But time passed, the water receded, and now the architectural monument is separated from the water by a wide avenue.
Historical-architectural reserve of Ichkheri-sheher, or Old Town.
Today it is just a small piece of land, full of ancient secrets and legends. It was once one of the most impregnable defenses, with five gates (3 from the sea, 2 from the land). A double ring of walls, 30 half-towers with 3-meter-high masonry walls, a labyrinth of narrow streets and minarets, numerous shops with carpets and copperware - all this is about Icheri-Sheher.
