Christopher Columbus International Airport, also known as Genoa Airport, is located 7 kilometers from the city center. The terminal is situated on the artificial island of Sestri Ponente and serves over 1.3 million passengers per year.
How to get to the city center
Travel time by taxi, rental car, or transfer – about 20 minutes; by bus or train – around 30 minutes.
Public transportation
Shuttle bus
You can reach the train stations Genova Brignole and Genova Piazza Principe, both located in the city center.
Stop: go to the parking area near the terminal exit. Look for the sign "Aeroporto".
Travel time: 30 minutes.
Schedule: from 06:00 to 00:00 daily, every 40–50 minutes.
Fare: 6 EUR.
Where to buy a ticket: at ticket machines in the airport or directly from the driver.
Note! When you buy a bus ticket, you also get 1-hour access to the metro, funicular, and other city buses for free.
Train
You can take a train to reach the city center, the main railway station, as well as other cities in Italy and France.
The nearest station, Genova Sestri Ponente Aeroporto, is located 1.5 km from the airport. To get there, take SP or i24 buses. The bus stop is next to the terminal entrance. These buses are free. Tickets can be purchased on the first floor of the airport or on the official website of Trenitalia.
Fare: 1.60 EUR.
Travel time: about 26 minutes.
Schedule: daily from 05:24 to 22:12, with 30-minute intervals.
Transfer
If you want to get to the center comfortably and hassle-free, a transfer is the best choice. The company Kiwitaxi is highly recommended. On their website, you can choose a suitable car and pay online with a credit card.
Price: from 45 EUR per vehicle (fixed rate, depending on destination).
Taxi
The taxi rank is located right outside the terminal. It’s easy to spot the taxis — they are painted in bright yellow or white. The airport is served by Gexi, Prenotaxi, and Radiotaxi companies.
Price: from 25 EUR per car (1–3 passengers).
Note! Taxi fares depend on many factors: luggage, number of passengers, holidays, and weekends. There is also an additional airport pickup fee of 2.5 EUR.
Car Rental
Rental counters are located directly inside the airport building, so you can rent a car on site. However, it's better to book a car online through dedicated services — it’s cheaper and allows you to choose a vehicle in advance.
Cost: depends on the car class and rental duration, starting from 30 EUR/day.
