Even if you are in Genoa for just one day, this route will suit you — it is designed for 6–7 hours and includes all the main tourist locations. The starting point is the main city station Stazione Principe.
Leaving the station building, you will find yourself at Piazza Acquaverde — look around and you will see the Columbus monument and the Giovanni Evangelista de Pre Cathedral. Continue the walking route through Genoa along Via Balbi, reach the first intersection, turn right and exit to the waterfront. By the sea is the Maritime Museum — Galata Museo del Mare. Nearby you can see a submarine docked, and in the distance — the ancient tower Porta dei Vacca.
The next stop on the itinerary around Genoa is a real pirate galleon. After 200 metres is the city's Aquarium, then the Old Port, Porto Antico. Don't forget to take a few pictures against the Ligurian sea.
When you cross Piazza Caricamento, you will see the most beautiful Genoese palaces De Marini and Emanuele FilibertoDi Negro. Walk between them and you will find yourself on Piazza Banchi, turn onto via Canneto il Curto, count the third intersection, turn left — and here you are in the Old Town!
The first stop on the tourist route through historic Genoa is Palazzo Ducale, the most beautiful Duke's Palace. Walk straight ahead — you will first reach the ancient gates of Porta Soprana, then Piazza Dante, where you can closely examine the house where Christopher Columbus lived from the age of four. From there, turn right and in three minutes you'll be at Genoa's main square — Piazza De Ferrari. This is a great place to end your walk — perfect for enjoying focaccia and sharing your impressions!
