Where is Benidorm?
Benidorm is located on the picturesque east coast of Spain, in the heart of the Costa Blanca resort area. Administratively, it belongs to the province of Alicante, which is famous for its magical landscapes and mild climate.
The Mediterranean "profile" of Benidorm is characterized by the presence of a large number of bays surrounded by two crescents Levante and Poniente, the largest beach areas of the region. The population of Benidorm is about 70,000 inhabitants. In the holiday season, its density, already the highest on the Costa Blanca (1800 people / sq. km.), increases five times. The national currency is the euro (EUR).
History of Benidorm.
May 8, 1325 is the day Benidorm was founded. It was on this day that Admiral Bernat de Saria presented the city charter, which clearly defined the boundaries of the settlement, ordered the creation of defensive structures, and established the basic cultural and political norms of life in the city. Prior to this, Benidorm had existed solely as a "staging post" for the ancient Greeks, Romans and Phoenicians.
The transformation of Benidorm from a fishing town to a major tourist center occurred in the mid-19th century, when a permanent transport link was established between Alicante and Madrid. Benidorm began to grow upwards and upwards, setting records for the number of skyscrapers per capita (now the largest in the world) and the number of skyscrapers per square meter (second only to New York).
