Maspalomas: city map and main districts

To get to know Maspalomas better, check out its map.

The Maspalomas resort is the result of a large-scale ambitious project realized in 1961 as part of a competition of ideas by the International Union of Architects. The winner of the competition was the French bureau SETAP. The architects designed infrastructure on 1,060 hectares, including a 17-kilometer coastal zone of the Maspalomas - Costa Canaria region.

The Maspalomas tourist area has served as a model for the development of a number of other resorts in the Canary Archipelago. Today Maspalomas is a fully equipped tourist town, reminiscent of the American Palm Springs and Palm Beach in terms of development strategy.

Map of Maspalomas will show you parks, golf clubs, major shopping centers, casinos, sports centers, many restaurants, cafes and bars.

Maspalomas hotel map shows the traveler a wide range of accommodation choices from high-end hotel complexes, private apartments, bungalows, guesthouses and hostels. For example, Maspalomas 3 star hotels and budget hotels are located on the second coastline, as more expensive hotels are located directly on the coast.

The Maspalomas area includes a sand dune nature reserve that is popular with tourists. The beaches of Maspalomas are also a favorite destination for the LGBT community. Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés have hotels and residential neighborhoods that cater to gay and lesbian vacationers. Also, members of the LGBT community in Maspalomas gather at nightclub and bars. In addition, Playa del Inglés hosts an annual gay and lesbian festival in mid-February.

The Maspalomas tourist area includes the resorts of Playa del Ingles, Bahia Feliz, Playa del Aguila, San Agustin, Campo Internacional and Meloneras.

Maspalomas has many avenues, small and large. In the coastal area of Maspalomas is the symbol of the city - the largest lighthouse in the archipelago, erected in 1890. Beyond the lighthouse begins Lugar las Meloneras, the most respectable place on the entire island of Gran Canaria, where 5-star hotels reign supreme. In turn, the beach stretches away into the distance, towards the dunes.

In the Maspalomas neighborhood closer to the exit of the city is el Parque del Sur, a 5 minute cab ride from the lighthouse. The park is ideal for children up to 12 years old, for whom there is a huge children's area with all sorts of playgrounds. There is a cafe for adults to relax.

The Maspalomas promenade area is dotted with an abundance of restaurants, cafes and souvenir stores. Strolling along the promenade you can have a great meal and do some shopping.

Tourists are constantly wandering along Maspalomas Beach from the lighthouse toward the dunes. The secluded and isolated stretches of coastline are popular with nudists. From the lighthouse to Playa del Inglés, the nudist zone is located between beach bars 3 and 4 (sign FKK). If you go from Playa del Inglés to the Maspalomas lighthouse, then the nudist area is between beach bars 5 and 6. Water sports enthusiasts, particularly surfers, congregate at the bend connecting Maspalomas to Playa del Inglés.

Common vacationers, nudists and surfers occasionally mingle freely on different parts of the beach and have no problem enjoying the ocean together or simply spending hours sunbathing.
