Puerto del Carmen is the only place on the island where "the" nightlife is thriving. Although this word combination is generally little appropriate on quiet and genteel Lanzarote. There are casinos, discos in season, bars with show programs, an eccentric cabaret Music Hall Tavern.
Puerto del Carmen has plenty of entertainment for kids and adults. The original Taro de Tahiche Cesar Manrique house, which the architect built into a cave in the volcanic rock, is a must-see. Today the villa is a gallery of contemporary art. The cost to visit is 5 EUR. Manrique said, "Man must gradually merge with nature to find the truth of life. All I want is to be part of nature...".
The house is furnished with many unique interior details, art objects, paintings by Picasso, Miró, Tapies and sculptures by Manrique. The lower floor of Taro de Tahiche consists of 5 arranged volcanic caves, and the level above, a lava flow flows directly into the window of the house. The tree that Manrique fell in love with and built the house around - the fig tree - has become an integral part of it and now stands in the middle of the living room. The villa belongs to the "Cesar Manrique Foundation", it is located in the town of Tahiche, 5 kilometers from the capital Arrecife.
