Hiking trails from Puerto del Carmen can be picked up towards the small village of Las Casitas de Femés, following the LZ-702 road for about two kilometers. The road rises and winds between fields and surprisingly green valleys. To the west there are views of the ocean, and to the east there is a lunar landscape and volcanic peaks.
Through the village of Las Casitas de Femés is the way to the village of Femés, a distance of 8 kilometers. In the village you should look for the sign Femés Quesería Rubicon (Plaza San Marcial 3). Here they sell the best goat cheeses on the island. The cheese costs 6 EUR per kilogram.
Then you can cross the road to Plaza de Femmes, where there's a café with a great view of the bustling ocean. Another walking route starts from Plaza de Femmes, along the coast to Playa Quemada. The distance between the two points is 11 kilometers and the travel time is 4 hours. Hiking enthusiasts can also wind 8.3 kilometers to Playa Blanca, which is surrounded by wide valleys and with an open seascape.
