Located on the Atlantic coast of the United States, the city is the largest metropolitan area in the Southeast. Just a couple of dozen kilometers from the shores of Miami flows the Gulf Stream - it is to it the city owes its warm mild climate. Miami's main draw is its incredible diversity of cultures.
The media often call this city the "gateway to Latin America," and that's because more than 60 percent of Miami's population is from Cuba, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. The average age of the city's residents is an impressive 38 years old, with many affluent retirees moving to Miami to retire.
Miami was founded in 1896, or rather, in this year it received the status of a city. Now it is quite possible to say that Miami has two creators - a wealthy American woman Julia Tuttle, who founded an orange plantation here (in the late XIX century Miami provided citrus for all the states), and industrialist Henry Flagler, who opened a railroad connection with Miami.
By the way, Miami is considered the only American city founded by a woman. And back in the 1920s, gambling was allowed here and Prohibition was abolished - it was from that moment that Americans from the northern states began to move to Miami en masse.
