The history of Buller as a ski resort traces back to 1946 when a group of skiers embarked on their inaugural descent down the mountain. The town of Buller officially came into existence in 1954 with the construction of the first lodge. Over time, infrastructure such as roads was established, and the resort experienced gradual development. Much of this progress was carried out by passionate individuals dedicated to enhancing the resort and creating a comfortable environment for skiing enthusiasts.

Currently, Buller holds the distinction of being Australia's premier resort, maintaining this status for the past decade. Each season, it welcomes over 300,000 vacationers. Notably, in Australia, the winter season commences when it concludes in Europe, usually around mid-May. This is the time when snow cannons become operational at resorts across the Australian continent, extending the skiing season until October. The resort boasts a snow cover thickness of over 1.5 meters and encompasses a vast area of 2,300 hectares situated at an elevation of 1,805 meters above sea level. Visitors have access to 27 lifts facilitating access to the slopes.
