The most prestigious entertainment for adults in Deauville is considered a visit to the casino. Most of the visitors here are retired French millionaires who can easily afford to lose a few thousand euros in one night. The casino building itself is a grand snow-white palace in the Empire style. The hall and gaming rooms are decorated with marble floors, staircases with gilded railings, and crystal chandeliers. Twenty-four gaming tables are covered with bright red felt.
What is unusual is that croupiers at the tables sit rather than stand. Entry to the casino is free, and the minimum bet at the roulette tables is €1. You can also try your luck on one of the 325 slot machines, ranging from modern “one-armed bandits” to vintage poker machines. It is said that one lucky visitor once won as much as €200,000!
The casino is the center of Deauville’s nightlife. The aristocratic clientele is not inclined to dance at foam parties or party at car-themed events. Night bars and pubs operate at some hotels. On weekends (and daily in summer), one of the most exclusive nightclubs in Deauville and all of France, Le Regine’s, opens its doors. This venue is not for “mere mortals.” A strict dress code and face control are enforced, and if Hollywood stars are in attendance, the club is entirely closed to ordinary tourists.
Among other attractions are six golf and polo fields, as well as the Algotherm thalassotherapy center. Here you can undergo treatments with seaweed, cryo- and pressotherapy, enjoy a pearl bath, do gymnastics in the pool, or simply work out in the gym.
