Water Temperature in Deauville
The waters of Deauville cannot be called warm or gentle. The maximum ocean temperature is reached in August (+18–19°C). During the first days of September, swimmers can still be seen on the beaches, but by October no one dares to take a dip. The Atlantic water temperature drops to +15°C. In winter, the ocean cools down even further — to +7°C. Real warming is only observed in May, when the water reaches +13°C. The swimming season usually opens at the end of June or early July.
It is worth noting that the water temperature in the Atlantic Ocean in Deauville almost coincides with the air temperature throughout the year. The difference is about 1–2 degrees. Swimming is not recommended in windy or stormy weather, as the Atlantic waves here can be very high.
Daily tides in Deauville are among the strongest on the European coast. The water rises at a speed of about 20 km/h and recedes just as quickly, leaving behind a smooth sandy plain and small marine creatures. During low tide, the ocean retreats almost a kilometer.
