In their reviews about shopping in Deauville, many people note that shopping in brand-name boutiques is an integral part of life for vacationers in the resort. Wealthy French people take it for granted to start the day with a cup of coffee and croissants on the promenade and continue with a stroll through the stores of expensive brands. Almost every tourist who came to Deauville for vacation can afford to spend 1000-2000 EUR on a Chanel handbag or Louis Vuitton shoes.
The most famous fashion houses are located on the Place Yves Saint Laurent (behind the casino). You will not see here "screaming" neon billboards or billboards announcing a grand sale. Modest signs do not need additional advertising. They speak for themselves: Dior, Sonia Rykiel, Ralph Lauren, Cerruti, Hugo Boss, Hermes.
All the stores are traditional Norman-style houses: they practically blend in with the general architecture of the city. The boutiques are very small, but the range is huge. Usually no more than one customer is served here. This way, the rich customer feels that all the attention is given only to him.
Shopping centers were not built in Deauville. The local authorities decided that modern multi-brand giants do not fit into the atmosphere of an elite resort. If you want to go shopping in a mall, go to Rouen (Centre Commercial Saint-Sever) or Caen (Les rives de l'orne).
The largest shopping center in Deauville is Printemps department store (104 Rue Eugene Colas). It was opened back in 1865 and since then it has been a benchmark of a French trading house. It offers the latest collections of Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Gucci, Alexander McQueen and others. It is almost unreal to find a thing cheaper than 500 EUR.
For those who want to "buy" brands with discounts, we advise you to go on a shopping tour from Deauville to Paris. Having overcome 200 km, you will find yourself in a true Mecca for shopaholics. The nearest outlet stores near Deauville are in Villers-sur-Mer (Plage) and Honfleur (The Style Outlets).
By the way, there are no streets with souvenir shops in the resort. A couple of stores with such products (magnets, T-shirts, postcards, plates) can be found only on the seafront.
