City transportation
The main mode of public transportation in Chania is buses. They are organized under state supervision by a private company KTEL. Most of the buses on the routes are new and are comparable in comfort to tourist buses.
Tickets for transportation in Chania are sold at bus station ticket offices, mini-markets, coffee shops near bus stops (look for the sign "buss tickets"), and on the buses themselves. Buying a round-trip ticket is more cost-effective than a one-way ticket.
Transportation schedules
But since transportation in Chania is infrequent, a word of advice to tourists is not to take a return ticket right away. A bus from a different route, traveling in the direction you want to go, may be faster than the one you bought the ticket for. For up-to-date bus schedules, see here or the booklets available at bus stations.
Critish drivers can set off 10 or even 20 minutes ahead of schedule. The price of transportation in Chania depends on the distance. A ticket to the airport, for example, costs around 2.30 EUR. Children under 5 are free.
Taxis can be taken in the parking lot, caught on the street or ordered by phone.
