Chania water temperature
Chania's coastline is washed by the Cretan Sea, which is part of the Mediterranean basin. It attracts tourists from all over the world with its crystal clear water and the beauty of its numerous bays. In the "high season" the temperature of the Cretan Sea is +23°C, the Libyan Sea - an average of +25°C. In July-August, the temperature in the Cretan and Libyan seas reaches +27°C.
Tides and tidal surges are virtually non-existent. However, the Cretan Sea has a wilful nature. It can suddenly become agitated and then calm down again after a while. This is often due to the prevailing winds on the coast of Chania. In summer, they can raise quite high waves in the Cretan and Libyan seas.
