There are plenty of entertainment options for adults and children in Rhodes. One of the most popular and favorite local festivals is the Watermelon Festival, held in July. The most anticipated event is the carving competition, where artisans carve stunningly beautiful shapes and flowers into watermelons.
At the end of the festival, you can race watermelon rinds, play soccer with the ripe berries or take part in a watermelon throwing contest.
Another popular festival is the Medieval Rose Festival, held the last weekend of May in the historic center of Rhodes. For two days, citizens and tourists experience all the delights of medieval life: dress up in period costumes, watch street stunts and artisans at work, taste medieval cuisine, shoot archery and sword fights, and watch a fire show. There are puppet shows for the younger guests of the festival.
If you have energy left after the day's entertainment, you can continue the fun at one of Rhodes' nightclubs on the Elia promenade. Among the hot spots are Amphitheatre Boutique Club, Angel pure Club (both for fans of Latin music and open-air parties), Captain Hook (for fans of rock and metal) and Paradiso Beach Club (for fans of techno and electro).
